TMoRP Day 4 – From a Certain Point of View

Today’s positive thing is something I’m looking forward to: Star Wars – From A Certain Point of View.

As it says on the cover, this is a collection of 40 short stories to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first Star Wars movie AKA Star Wars (none of this A New Hope nonsense for me. I know what I saw on that screen in ’77).

Three things to like about this project:

First, the lineup of authors is an outstanding lineup of nerd writers, from comics royalty like Greg Rucka and Kellie Sue DeConnick, to actors including Ashley Eckstein and Wil Wheaton, to speculative writers from the literary through to the pulp ends of the spectrum, and everything in between.

Second, the premise is that each story is told from the perspective of some obscure, background Star Wars character  who is only on-screen for two or three seconds. I’m anticipating quite a lot of new information about the staff and patrons of the Mos Eisley Cantina.

Third, the authors have all donated their fees to the First Book charity, which provides reading material to young people in need. I can always get behind a reading charity.

I’d been meaning to get this as an ebook but when a new bookstore opened up near my work this week, I had to celebrate by buying something. This was my pick, and I can’t wait to dig in.
